Back home, Bethel Park WWII bo

Jim Hannigan grew up in a home in Baden where his parents taught him it was important to have a sense of duty to family, country and community.

"My father never forgot the lessons he learned from my grandparents," said Richard Hannigan of Oregon.

James L. Hannigan of Bethel Park, former co-owner of the Pleasant Hills Village Dairy, died on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon. He was 88.

"My grandfather, Lewis Hannigan, was a steel mill superintendent who worked through the Depression and made sure that the grocery bills for many of the men who worked for him and lost their jobs were paid," Richard Hannigan said.

"As an Army Air Corps bombardier, Dad was involved in 50 bombing missions in the China-Burma-India Theater of war during World War II. He was replica balenciaga handbags proud to have served his country and impressed on us what this country meant to himself and the men who fought with him."

Richard Hannigan said his parents operated the Pleasant Hills Village Dairy and his father, a former milkman, put in long hours to raise and educate him and his siblings.

"Dad had a great personality that people liked, whether he was their milkman or waiting on them at the dairy store," Hannigan said.

"My parents were also committed to the Bethel Park Presbyterian Church, where my father was a deacon and where my parents both taught Sunday school.

"Dad also had a passion for baseball and football and coached many of Bethel Park's recreation programs, including Little League."

Even after he retired from coaching, he kept tabs on the careers of the young people he coached.

Mr. Hannigan worked as a crossing guard at the corner of Sarah Street and California Avenue in Bethel Park and retired at 85.

Mr. Hannigan is survived by two daughters, Colleen Jansky of Staten Island, N.Y., and Vemala Valdez of pandora charms California; two sons, Michael Hannigan of North Carolina and Richard Hannigan of Oregon; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Hannigan was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Rodgers Hannigan, in 2002; a son, Daniel B. Hannigan; brother, Bob Hannigan; and sister, Margaret Hannigan.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Paul L. Henney Memorial Chapel, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday.
