The low-level mumblings about Gov. Kathleen Sebelius making a splash in national politics in 2008 has apparently reached the ears of Newsweek editors.
Sebelius was named one of the magazine's 20 people to watch in 2007. The article calls the Kansas governor a "pro-business, pro- military, pro-choice, fiscal conservative" who has "emerged as the dean of a new breed of Democrats taking over what was once reliably red terrain."
She was recently elected the head of the Democratic Governors Association and had been named one of the country's five best governors by Time magazine.
In the Newsweek
embroidered patches article, Sebelius was credited with battling the Pentagon for better equipment for Kansas National Guard troops in Iraq.
The article lists categories in which people are making marks. Among those categories are music, health and sports. Sebelius is listed under Heartland.
Some political experts have said she could be a vice presidential nominee for the Democratic ticket in 2008. Another prominent governor on the list, Mitt Romney, of Massachusetts, has widely been seen as a potential candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.
